Found an earlier example of non-neuronal learning exhibited by SLIME MOLD (!) from a year & a half ago.
Learning and memory — abilities associated with a brain or, at the very least, neuronal activity — have been observed in protoplasmic slime, a unicellular organism with multiple nuclei. (nature)
Physarum polycephalum is my new favorite member of the Amoebozoa phylum.
