figs! →
so… a month or so ago, i ate a fig that wasn’t part of a fig newton for the first time in my life. i was by myself when i ate it, and i had a bit of a hard time trying to figure out the best and least-messy way to eat one. i ended up simply opening the skin and then scraping the innards (i don’t like that word) out with my teeth. they taste very much like the stuffing of a...

Eric: i have to run out and get my shiny locks cut + hands dipped in parafin w/ an alias b/c i ditched my appt last week
me: ha - i think we should make all reservations under the same occult alias... my friend francesco always makes reservations under the name of his hs physics textbook author... just in case he cancels
Eric: man, why didn't we have an OC fan site called the OCcult?
me: llol

– ij that section - and the critique of ironic/cynical/hip aloofness - really reminds me of the ben fold’s five song - battle of who could care less, which is maybe a bit too sentimentally angst-y and ummm, not so austerely rendered as the above.

francesco: man, these people can't act at all. Oh! I'm scared! I'm scared!
me: this was the first movie completely acted by monkeys.
francesco: ha. i heard the director is chinese, something Pahn Zee. I think, Chee. Chee Pahn Zee.
me: snap.

awesome coffee pranks
i left a quarter pot of coffee on my coffee machine all night… so, this morning my room was filled with the toasty aroma of thoroughly burnt coffee. all the water had evaporated off, leaving a nice, brown residue caked to the bottom of the pot. a normal individual would most likely take the pot to the sink to clean it and brew a fresh pot. i, instead, opted for the...

i'm not sure what ghosts are at work.
for the third time the trashcan in my office has changed during the night. i’m not sure how this happens. i don’t mind at all; it’s just a bit mystifying.  this one is about half the size of my previous receptacle and, as a result, when i attempted to throw my plastic cup in it this afternoon i missed.  i don’t usually miss, because, although i’m unable to see my...

love hurts (aka i'm an idiot)
my poor poor puter is having a rough day… we were peacefully sleeping together last night when a midnight readjustment sent my beloved skittering to the tile floor. poor thing’s memory is a bit faded.

peter: what are you writing?
me: i'm just putting down things that happened to us that i think were funny...
peter: oh, let me see.
me: no, not yet...i want you to record what you thought was funny separately, i don't want my list to affect you.
peter: come on, what do you have already? i don't want to duplicate.
me: well... you should be fine, as it is now it's just my impressions on things that happened....so, it's basically a lot of
"...so then i said this funny thing and everyone died laughing...."
peter: oh.... that's definitely going in my list.

i like clean places
me: m, i think it'd be nice to have an architecture that focused on spaces that were easy to keep clean.
michael: i think the key to that would be to have no unused surfaces, because places that are used don't gather dirt.

When it blows it blows.
The region I live in has a few different winds. There is a nice cool wind that comes from the west, over the mountains, and is refreshing and invigorating. There’s also a wind that comes from Africa in the south which is called the vento garbino. This is the wind we’ve been having the past week and it’s like sticking your face in front of an open oven. I’ve seriously never...
